News from the Outstanding Teaching, Learning and Assessment (OTLA) North East & Cumbria

The latest news from the Outstanding Teaching, Learning and Assessment North East & Cumbria is now available to read online.

The North East and Cumbria OTLA, funded by The Education and Training Foundation and managed by a consortium led by Success North, is enabling groups of providers to access collaborative development grants to investigate and develop teaching, learning and assessment approaches for the benefit of learners. The inception meeting took place on the 17th of March at Newcastle College, with representation from 19 education and training providers. 

The collaborative partnerships comprise providers from different sectors, including FE, work based learning, offender learning and community settings, and will develop and share approaches for ensuring outstanding practice across a range of contexts and topics. Projects will be informed by relevant practice-based research and will lead to improved learning and classroom practice, demonstrable through enhanced learner outcomes.

The projects focus on a range of themes (lead organisations in brackets):

  • Synergy in promoting learning (Redcar & Cleveland College)
  • Hard to reach learners (Gateshead Council)
  • Recently qualified teachers (Bishop Auckland College)
  • Construction apprenticeship trainers (Tyne Met College)
  • Initial and Diagnostic Assessment (South Tyneside Council)
  • Breaking the cycle (Newcastle College)
  • Stretch and Challenge (South Tyneside College)
  • Equality and Diversity (Darlington Borough Council)
  • GCSE Maths (Stockton Riverside College)
  • Assessment and Tracking (Kendal College / North Tyneside Council)
  • Offender Learning (Novus)
  • Activities for supporting maths learners (Success North)
  • Activities for supporting English learners (Success North)
