Welcome to the Skills for Life Network E-News Update
We have some interesting points of note on teacher training for you in this edition of the e-news update.
If you qualified as a Skills for Life teacher prior to 2007 and would like to map your qualifications to the new teaching qualifications, check out the information on the Tariff of Qualifications from SVUK.
If you have a degree and Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status, and would like to be able to teach in schools, do read the information on the assessment-only route to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). This assessment-based training will take up to a year to complete, and can be started and finished at any time.
Finally, on another note: if you're working with older learners, you may wish to introduce them to the recently launched Bookbite website. See below for more info.
£200million cut to funding for adult students
Colleges have been told that their ‘adult learner responsive’ budgets will shrink by 10 to 25%, with an AoC survey showing an average cut of 16%
Are you ready to deliver functional skills?
The Functional Skills self assessment tool is a downloadable questionnaire cross-referenced to the Post-16 Common Inspection Framework. It will help you develop an improvement plan for your organisation and identify what further development/support is needed to roll-out functional skills successfully.
Assessment-only route to QTS for FE teachers
An assessment-only route to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is being introduced. This development will offer further education teachers who have a degree and Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status a more flexible route to QTS accreditation, so that they can work as qualified teachers in schools.
