Following the success of their Functional Skills ICT resources, CiA Training will soon be releasing resources covering Functional Skills Maths Levels 1 and 2. The learning resources have been written by educators and are an ideal resource for use in any standalone Functional Skills Maths qualification or as part of the apprenticeship, Foundation Learning or other course. A comprehensive and practical study guide covers all of the content that students need to pass the exams.

Making Britain Numerate (2nd Ed) and Making Britain Literate (2nd Ed) are two workbooks written to support learners (including ESOL learners) studying Functional Skills either as part of an apprenticeship or as stand-alone qualifications. The up-to-date contextualised materials offer worked examples and a step by step guide through all areas required for achievement of functional skills maths and English. They are designed both to support learners directly and to support tutors in supporting their learners.

Changes to Ofsted inspection framework in FE and skills
This month the rules and guidelines that inform how Ofsted carry out inspections in the FE and skills sector is changing.

Ofqual review of ESOL qualifications
This Ofqual consultation is about English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) qualifications and how they will be regulated. Ofqual are proposing changes to the existing ESOL regulations. The consultation covers England and Northern Ireland.

Six Book Challenge exceeds targets for 2012
A record 23,500 less confident adult readers registered for The Reading Agency's 2012 Six Book Challenge programme. That's 1,000 more readers than anticipated, with figures set to rise further as public libraries, colleges, workplaces, prisons and other settings around the UK conclude and evaluate their Challenge activity for this year.

Support for English, maths and ESOL/Functional Skills from LSIS
From September 2012, LSIS will be offering 3 and 6-day packages of support for English, maths and ESOL/Functional Skills.
