Some key points of note in this edition of the e-news update:

You'll see that increased funding for functional skills has been announced by the Skills Funding Agency. The new rates apply to any learning undertaken in the current year, with effect from 1 August 2012. Rates for the 2013/14 year will be confirmed in January.

Ofsted has published its Annual Report for 2011/12, and one of the key findings for learning and skills is that the system needs to do more to ensure that young people secure English and mathematics skills by age 19.

Big Book of Literacies Training
Education Scotland and YouthLink Scotland have launched a new version of the Big Book of Literacies Training (BBLT), a resource bank for supporting young people with their literacies.

Functional skills funding increases
Increased funding for functional skills has been announced by the Skills Funding Agency. The increases of more than 100% apply to rates for functional skills in English and maths used with adults in the workplace, either as stand-alone qualifications or within an apprenticeship framework.
