Due to demand we have extended the enrolment period for the following part-time programmes until Nov 1st: Level 5 education and training, Maths/Numeracy,English/literacy and LDD/SEN; PGCE education and training; PGCE Maths, English and LDD/SEN; MEd Education and Professional Development. We are also starting new full-time programmes from January 2014.

The National Institute of Adult Continuing Education (NIACE) is reporting on ESOL learners' progression to Functional Skills English and GCSE English language qualifications. If you are an ESOL and/or English provider funded by the Skills Funding Agency, you are invited to take part in this call for information.

Free online maths courses launched to support adults
Three online maths courses to help adults improve their skills, manage their money and support their children, have been produced as part of the national Maths4Us initiative.

The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills is funding Initial Teacher Training bursaries to support recent graduates intending to teach English, maths and special education needs in the further education sector. Guidance on eligibility, the application and allocation process is now available.

New maths qualifications to boost numbers studying maths to age 18
Education Minister Elizabeth Truss has outlined plans to introduce new ‘core mathematics’ qualifications for students in the two post-GCSE years. The new qualifications are aimed at students who achieve a grade B or C in GCSE maths, and will also be available for those with an A* and A grade who do not take A or AS level mathematics.

New resources to help learners take control of their finances
Two new resources for providers who support homeless adults, young people and those on benefits or a low income to take control of their finances, have been launched by NIACE in partnership with Citizens Advice, Homeless Link and the Olive Tree Trust.

Poetry and Literature Award Open to Applications
The Clore Poetry and Literature Awards is a £1 million initiative aimed at funding poetry and literature projects for children and young people across the UK over a five year period (2011-2015). The overall objective of the programme is to provide young people under the age of 19 with the opportunity to experience poetry, literature, and creative writing both inside and outside of school, in compelling and exciting forms.

The Guide, published by the Skills Funding Agency, summarises the publicly funded qualifications offer within the Adult Skills Budget for 2013/14.
