In this edition, we have an update from the Skills Funding Agency on funding arrangements pending the review of English and maths qualifications - find out more below.

Also, you'll see that the Education and Training Foundation is inviting those working in the education and training sector in England to apply to take part in a blended learning programme to support Practitioner-Led Action Research projects. Your organisation will be eligible for a fixed bursary of 2,000 to cover any staff costs and travel costs that may be incurred. Applications must be received by the 31st of January 2014. Education and Training Foundation practitioner action research projects 2014

Would you like the opportunity to carry out some research to improve your own and colleagues' professional or organisational practice? Would you like to receive professional support in order to help you achieve this? In partnership with the East Midlands Centre for Excellence in Teacher Training (emCETT), the Education and Training Foundation is inviting those working in the education and training sector in England to apply to take part in a blended learning programme to support Practitioner-Led Action Research projects.

Awards for Adult Learners' Week 2014 still open
Adult Learners' Week, taking place between 14 - 20 June 2014, will be the culmination of weeks of celebration, illustrating how adult learning has a positive and dynamic impact on people, the economy and society.

Review of New QCF English and Maths Qualifications
The Skills Funding Agency (SFA) intends to review the new Qualifications and Credit Framework English and maths qualifications developed in 2013. While the review is under way the SFA does not intend to approve any more QCF English and maths qualifications or units for funding until 1 May 2014.

Session plans and resources for Early Years and Family Learning practitioners
The materials, produced by NIACE in collaboration with CBeebies, can be used as a stand-alone course or flexibly as part of separate sessions, for example as an introduction to family learning or in family learning taster workshops.

Youth Literacy and Employability Commission
The Youth Literacy and Employability Commission, led by a group of MPs and Lords, has published a report calling for a deeper partnership between education and business. The report highlights the different definitons of literacy in schools and in the workplace and the need to help young people form employment aspirations.
