Welcome to the Skills for Life Network E-News Update

In case you missed July's update, we've included again the article on the ministerial statement on improving post-16 numeracy and literacy.Key points are:

- With effect from August 2015 full-time 16 to 19 students with prior attainment of grade D in English and/or maths will take GCSE, rather than any other qualification in these subjects. By 2020, adults aged 19 and over and apprentices of all ages studying English and maths will be working towards achievement of the reformed GCSEs, taking stepping stone qualifications if necessary. Functional skills will continue to be part of apprenticeship completion requirements but the DfE will work with apprenticeship providers to enable them to offer GCSEs to their apprentices.

- Top graduates who teach maths in colleges and training providers will receive a golden hello of up to 10,000.

Teacher Training: You'll see that The Skills Funding Agency has published details of the scheme to support graduate in-service initial maths teacher training in further education, including how to access funding. We also have information on funded teacher training opportunities available at Leeds City College through the FE Direct scheme.
