Welcome to the Skills for Life Network E-News Update

In this edition of the update, we have details of the Report by the Commons Select Committee on Adult Literacy and Numeracy. You may also like to take a look at the 'Manifesto for a Numerate UK' published by the charity National Numeracy Strategy. A key recommendation is that a respected qualification in numeracy (core maths) is needed alongside GCSE maths, and that consideration should be given to the introduction of dual GCSEs in maths and numeracy.

Teacher training: if you're looking for funding to enable you to train as a specialist English or Maths teacher in the FE sector, you may be interested in the FE Direct programme offered by Leeds City College, and also the programmes on offer at Newcastle College School of Education.

Finally, a reminder that The Education and Training Foundation is offering opportunities, for another year, to practitioners wishing to undertake a supported action research project. Applications close on the 3rd of October - see the article below for full details.
