The Education and Training Foundation has commissioned touchconsulting Ltd to establish Practice Development Groups (PDGs) in the East and West Midlands. The PDGs will consist of action learning sets of practitioners who will work together on a short-term, small-scale project to enhance the teaching of English or the embedding of maths or English into a programme area.

Government to fund catch-up tutoring for 16-19 year olds
The Department for Education has announced that as part of the tutoring fund, it will make a one-off, ring-fenced grant of up to £96M for colleges, sixth forms and all 16-19 providers, to provide small group tutoring activity for disadvantaged 16-19 students whose studies have been disrupted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

King Street – a phonics reading programme based on the residents of King Street
King Street is a structured phonics-based reading programme, designed for group learning with both adult and teenage beginner readers. Readers are taken on a journey of discovery about the people who live on King Street; exploring themes of family, community and friendship. The programme consists of graded books sets, to help learners develop the skills necessary for reading competency.

Applications are now open for this year’s OTLA (English and maths) programme
A team led by ccConsultancy in partnership with That Reading Thing and Skills for Life Network has secured funding from the Education and Training Foundation (ETF) to support action research projects that focus on approaches to teaching, learning and assessment in English and maths. This is a national Outstanding Teaching Learning and Assessment (OTLA) project, supported by a team of experts in Post-16 English and maths. The programme is funded and subsidised by the Department for Education and is open to eligible organisations funded by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA).
