Developing and supporting effective teaching practice in the Lifelong Learning Sector
Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) and the national network of Centres for Excellence in Teacher Training (ACETT) have worked together to develop a plain English guide, with links to helpful resources and ideas, that looks at approaches to developing and supporting effective teaching practice.
The guide aims to help you discover:
- the benefits of investing in effective teaching practice
- the resources that are available to help you get started
- how to make it work in your organisation.
Each section provides examples that you can use in your workplace, a mini-checklist for your progress, online resources and suggested further reading to help you get started. Links to written success stories which illustrate best practice from the sector are also included, as well as three video success stories.
Colin Laidler, Teaching and Learning Manager, Northern Learning Trust, describes using a cascade model of mentoring with support from senior managers:
"The benefits of the cascade model is that it keeps refreshing your knowledge as you're mentoring someone else. You're having to keep your skills, knowledge and experience up-to-date, so that you can ensure that whatever issues they are bringing you, you're up-to-date with what it is they are asking."
