Government to fund catch-up tutoring for 16-19 year olds
The Department for Education has announced that as part of the tutoring fund, it will make a one-off, ring-fenced grant of up to £96M for colleges, sixth forms and all 16-19 providers, to provide small group tutoring activity for disadvantaged 16-19 students whose studies have been disrupted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Schools were already set to receive significant investment from the Government’s £1 billion Covid catch-up package next academic year, but the package has now been extended to include 16-19 providers. It's estimated that 70 per cent of students resitting English and maths are from disadvantaged backgrounds, and will need focused support to ensure they can succeed next academic year.
